1. I have always liked working with children. When I was a teenager I enjoyed babysitting and working as a camp counselor. Younger children have such an excitement about learning and discovering the world around them. Everything is new to them. It is a great feeling to be a part of helping them learn and grow into the person they will become.
ReplyDelete2. I worked at a daycare which had kids from age 6 weeks to 5 years(preschool/ pre-K). There were different rooms for the different ages. The age of the children in the room determined how many children and adults were in the room. For example: the infant room had around 12 babies and 3 teachers, while the 5 year old room had around 20 kids and 3 adults. Each child would be assigned a primary caregiver. That person would be the go to person when it came to communicating with parents but we would all share others tasks (such as changing diapers, putting them down for a nap, and meal/snack preparation). Working together as a team really helps when you are trying to manage that many kids in a classroom.
3. I've never worked as a kindergarten teacher or half day program but I currently work at a public school with a pre-K program that is half day and a full day kindergarten. The pre-K program teachers have an am program then a break for lunch and then a pm program with different kids. Some differences between pre-K and kindergraten are pre-K has no lunch at school (but they do have snack), no specials (like art, music, etc.), however the teachers do incorporate those types of activities into the program. The half day goes by really fast and it can sometimes feel like there isn't enought time to get everything done that you had wanted to. Also there is usually less planning because you usually do the same things for the pm session as you did during the am session. There are definately pros and cons to each type of schedule.
